Mr. Big found his forever home!
The first thing that drew Nina and Stan, who adopted Mr. Big, “was that goofy grin in the picture where he wears glasses and rides in a convertible. He was perfect.” They fell immediately in love with him, and knew he was their dog.
They wanted a dog who was hard-to-adopt and Nina said, “it was perfectly okay with us if the dog came with behavioral or health issues.” That’s how Mr. Big got adopted and is now living his best life in the countryside, with a lot of land to explore. They actually found Mr. Big well behaved, and a lovable goofball! "We feel lucky that we got him." They almost didn’t as there was another interested party, but luckily for them, that one fell through. They quickly found that Mr. Big would need a lot of training, but that did not deter them. In the beginning, they found him overly-excited, and he even cried if they went to the bathroom. But in time, he started to relax, and would cuddle in Stan's lap. They also soon found out how smart he was - as he managed to open the pantry door, and the dog proof tin to grab his treats! Mr. Big is dog reactive, a feature that many hard-to-adopt dogs have, which makes them just a bit harder to find their forever homes, but they weren't fazed. Instead, they started conditioning him with Dog TV, and he now only occasionally reacts when he sees a dog in the car. Nina gushed, “He's our amazing loving baby with just the biggest personality, and we LOVE him.” This is just proof that there really is a loving person for any type of dog, whether the dog has behavioral or medical issues. It is our mission to help hard-to-adopt dogs like Mr. Big to get adopted, and get a chance for a better life. Congrats to Forgotten Dogs Rescue, Mr. Big's foster, Nina, Stan, and Mr. Big. |
Bubba found his family!
Bubba has finally found his paw-fect furrever family! He was a long-term, hard-to-adopt Pasado’s Safe Haven resident with not many reasons why he wasn’t adoptable. He was just struggling to find the home that was the perfect fit for him, and needed someone to have faith in him to give him some training.
Well, he’s now living with a two-year-old sister, who has even more energy than him! Bubba had long dreamed of playing rough house with a playmate, but very was unable to make the right connection with other dogs or an adoptive family. It's a perfect fit for everyone, and no one could ask for anything more. Pasado’s Safe Haven is ecstatic that Bubba has finally found his people! Congrats to Pasado's Safe Haven, Bubba's adopters and Bubba! |
Not giving up!
Marky Mark was in Motley Zoo Animal Rescue's (MZAR), care for a total of 632 days - that's almost two years!!!
He finally found his loving home December 8, 2020 during our 9th annual Shelter Open House event - YAY!
MZAR wins our SOH award for adopting the animal who had been in shelter care the longest.
Congratulations to MZAR but most importantly, to Marky Mark! To celebrate MZAR's dedication to finding him the perfect home, we are awarding their staff and volunteers a pizza party this Spring (following Covid safety protocals, of course!).
Marky Mark, described by MZAR staff as a "love bug," came to them from a local shelter when they thought he had double ACL tears and couldn't fix them, hence the nickname Marky Mark and the Funky Leg. He was a shelter favorite and they reached out to MZAR for help. He was about nine months old at the time and had already been rehomed three times! Once seen by MZAR's orthopedic specialist, it was determined that he needed an FHO due to trauma (such as a kick). Once healed, Marky Mark needed a home without other dogs; when his new family, who had recently lost their pitbull, saw Marky Mark's picture they knew he was the one. Look at that face, we can understand why they fell in love!

Kenzie - ADOPTED!
|
Little pocket pittie Kenzie, who was waiting for the perfect people since 2015, was finally ADOPTED!!!
Kenzie, now known as Nugget, is probably snuggling her new doggo brother Otis right now! Nugget's family are the kind of people we wish for all of our dogs; people who accept them for who they are and work to help them be better! They love how sassy Nugget can be, and did everything to make sure she got along with her new brother, and now they are best buddies! Congrats to Forgotten Dogs Rescue, Nugget, her new brother Otis, and their people! |
Dog Works in Mysterious Ways!
We had lots of #Happy Tails from the 2019 Bow Wow Meow Luau, but this one was special! This woman had left the event, but she won one of our great raffle prizes. We gave her a cal and she came back to pick up her prize, and she told us "that was a sign from God. I told myhusband if I won that it would let me know how to adopt this dog." She went over to Skagit Valley Humane Society's booth and adopted her new best friend! After getting her bag of food from Petcurean and with her gift basket, she had everything pretty much that she needed for her new pup. The stars aligned for this little family, enjoy your new home little dude! |
Paradise found for Charlie
A Bow Wow Meow Luau Tail
My boyfriend and I had been discussing adding another dog to our family for some time now. So when I saw this event posted on Facebook, I immediately wanted to go! I thought it was perfect because all these shelters, humane society's, and rescues were at one place at the same time. How perfect!!!
Once we first got there, we were probably the 50th in line, which terrified me because I knew the dogs we wanted would go pretty fast. We originally wanted a puppy of a larger breed dog but I didn't see many puppies while standing in the line. So while waiting, we discussed our situation more and came to the conclusion that we still wanted a larger breed and now we would be fine adopting a dog up to a couple years old.
When we entered, I saw this yellow lab that looked pretty young. He was!!! It said he was 1 1/2 years old, stray male lab mix. We immediately got a volunteer to help us. Next we took him on a walk to get to know him better, and he seemed pretty well behaved, sweet and definitely playful. When we returned from our walk, we put him back and thought about it. After probably 2.5 seconds we signed the papers and we're headed home!!
I was nervous because he was our first adopted dog, but excited to get him home and see how he would adapt to all of it!! Well it's been about five days and so far so good!! He loves the yard, his toys, bones and absolutely loves to eat!! Reilye (our four year lab mix) and him get along pretty well; Reilye's adjusting to having a bundle of energy that wants to play all the time!! But I'll give it time and I am sure they will be best of friends!
Reilye and Charlie are a couple of great dogs, they are definitely our little fur babies! I am so glad we made that decision to adopt Charlie and give him a forever home! It brings a smile to my face knowing we saved him, and he will now have a happy, playful, adventurous life ahead of him!

A Boy and his Cat!
A Bow Wow Meow Luau Love Story
The Magee family has a very smart and caring 12 year-old son who adopted his best friend (Binx) at our Bow Wow Meow Luau adoption event back on July 12th.
"This is Binx, he is my son's first pet, we adopted him at your Bow Wow Luau. Binx is 6 years old. We were looking at kittens but when my son saw that most people were looking at kittens and not the older cats he decided he wanted to give an older kitty a new home. We love Binx and think he is a great addition to our family. Binx loves to play in his tunnel, play with my son on the couch and lay in the sun." - The Magee's - Ethan, Amy and Paul

Sumer Lovin Found
A Bow Wow Meow Luau story
What an experience!!! I've never been to an adoption event and really wasn't certain I was going to adopt, but brought my new carrier just in case. I love that there were cats inside and dogs outside. I was able to focus my heart on the cats without falling in love with the dogs. I looked over several different cages, but most had paired kittens and the older cats that were much older than I was looking for.
(I recently lost my 10 year old Raine to heart failure and her buddy Fuzz (11 years) had been crying out for her. So I made the decision to adopt a 10 month old laid back sweet kitten, Gracie Raine, as a playmate. Fuzz wanted nothing to do with her because Gracie so wanted her to play. So....my mission was to find an older kitten/young cat for Gracie. I had no intentions of getting a baby, but my heart had other ideas.)
When I came upon Summer Peach's enclosure, she was alone. Just hanging out--peaceful and calm. The PerffectPals volunteer offered to take her out and let me pet her..and I was in love and I was hooked!! They put her collar on her and I filled out adoption papers.
Before I actually took her, I was taken around (with a PP volunteer) to many different tables and given a huge bag of different foods. That ended up being a huge blessing, since no one knew what kind of food she was eating. It took me several days and many different wet and dry foods to get her to eat for more than a minute. She just wanted to play!!!
She is settling in very well!! She and Gracie played for the first time this morning with no hissing from either one. (She's a tough cookie and hisses back). Fuzz still doesn't want anything to do with either one, but that's O.K. Summer Peach will soon be renamed, but I just haven't found the perfect fit for her. Right now she is 'Lil One.
Thank you for hosting this and thanks to the many vendors who gave great samples!!! We ended up using Blue Buffalo dry food. And the Natural Balance frozen medallions. She loves both!!! Also, thank you for helping me find the prefect fit for my family!!

Barney and Me
A Desperate Housecats Love Story
On Sunday, April 12, 2015, Pawsitive Alliance held the Desperate Housecats Cat Adoption event at the Queen Anne MudBay store. Here is the story of one of the lucky 14 cats who found their forever homes that day.
"I have always liked cats and had the privilege to care for several in my lifetime. Like people they all have different personalities and are special in their own way.
Pawsitive Alliance was advertising an adoption event at the MudBay, Queen Anne store.
The first cats that I saw were Jewel, a beautiful long haired black female who was rescued with young kittens in June last year; Barney, a grey tabby with beautiful marks under his eyes; and Cougar a light brown tabby cat. Barney was around two years old; he had been living as a stray until he was captured in late February. I spent 30 minutes with Barney getting to know him. He seemed docile and cuddly, so I thought that we would make a good match. He seems to be very happy in his new home and has bought me a lot of pleasure. I have grown to love him in a very short space of time and I think that he loves me too.
This story tells a tale of a successful adoption despite the odds. There are so many animals needing loving homes and people like me who would like a companion to care for. The adoption centers in Washington provide a fabulous and selfless service and need support. Barney and I would especially like to thank Jean and her friends from Oasis on Whidbey Island."
