About the #WhyNotMePets campaign:
We launched our #WhyNotMePets campaign in 2015, inspired by the homeless pets we met at our 2014 Shelter Open House event who had been waiting for years to be adopted. We met a cat who had been at rural shelter for a full year, and two dogs who had been watching interested adopters pass them by for two years! Inspired by their stories, we wanted to help them find their forever homes so we launched the #WhyNotMePets campaign to focus attention on the homeless pets who need a helping hand to get adopted. These are the cats and dogs left asking, "Why not me?"
Since then, we have learned that there are many homeless pets who have been years to be adopted, we focus our efforts on highlighting them and their stories. Together, we are giving hope to the homeless cats and dogs who need more additional opportunities to be adopted. The campaign currently focuses on Washington's cats and dogs that have been homeless for a year or more and those with special needs.
