79 Dogs Have Their Day!
The Dog Days of Summer adoption event resulted in 79 happy endings. Staff members from 8 rescues and shelters worked together to find great homes for the dogs and puppies in their care.
Here are the stories of a few lucky dogs:
Lu Finds a Home, and Not a Moment Too Soon
Lu, an affectionate, young Blue Heeler mix, had been in an overcrowded eastern Washington shelter for weeks. Lu was a favorite of shelter staff, but was running out of time. She watched as her friends got adopted, and she was passed over. (There seems to be no rhyme or reason to why some dogs take longer to be adopted; some dogs just can't catch a break). Would a family come for Lu?
Yesterday, Lu's dreams came true. A young gentleman attended the event looking for a dog as a companion for himself and his older black lab. He met Lu and decided to drive back home to Seattle and bring his dog to meet her. He made it back just in the nick of time, introduced the dogs, and adopted Lu as the event was ending!
Gunnar Heads East
Gunnar, a big lovable Australian shepherd mix, needed a new home due to his owner's health issues. He attended yesterday's event hoping to meet his match. Gunnar's new mom was from Montana and was visiting her son and his family in Bothell. She had recently lost one of her dogs to old age and her other dog was lonely, so she came to the adoption event to meet some prospective new family members. Though she came looking for a smaller dog, she immediately fell in love with Gunnar! Gunnar found new parents with lots of time, love, and room for him, AND a doggie companion. It is a happy ending for everyone involved.
In addition, several dogs were transferred from shelters to private rescues, thanks to Barks R Us, Three Rivers Rescue, and Homeward Pet.
Thousands of dogs and cats are waiting for you today in shelters across the state. Please consider giving them a happy ending too.
Our next event is BARKtober Fest on Sunday, October 19th. Many rescued dogs and puppies will be there hoping to fall in love with families of their own. Stay tuned for more information.
