How You Can Help

Second Annual Designer Mutt Match

54 Dogs Found Homes at the Designer Mutt Match Event on Sunday!

With hope and commitment we can keep fighting to save the thousands of homeless dogs and cats across Washington State needing our help. From the dedicated volunteers who gave up their Sunday, the hard working rescues and shelters who drove their dogs to Bothell, the Academy of Canine Behavior staff who volunteered their time, and most of all the hundreds of families who came to be part of the solution THANK YOU. Here are three great stories that came out of Sunday's event:

Baby Finds a New Mom and Dad
Left homeless after her owner died, Baby became very attached to her foster dad from Barks R Us Rescue. It was becoming difficult to find this loyal little girl a new home because she refused to leave her rescuer's side.

Fortunately for Baby, Jamie and Leyna attended the Designer Mutt Match on Sunday, and fell in love with her. Jamie held Baby all the while Leyna was filling out the adoption application. They kept saying how much they loved her.

This is an all too common story to animal rescue. Review your Will and talk with your friends and family members to make sure your four legged loved ones are cared for after you are gone.

Here is an update from Baby's new family: "Baby is doing a great job adjusting and we couldn't love her any more. She sleeps on a little bed we got her right beside us at night, then hops up and cuddles with us in the morning. Yesterday I took her for a run around Seward Park in Seattle and she did a great job keeping pace with me, afterwards we went for a little hike on a trail in the park. I was really impressed. Baby amazes us every day-we can't wait to get to know her more! Thank you for bringing her into our lives."

Susan and Robert Make a Lifetime Commitment to Luna
Susan and Robert were one of the many families who attended our "Pre-adoption Workshop" on Saturday to help prepare them for bringing a dog into their home and making them a part of their family. Their enthusiasm and extensive preparation for welcoming a new family member was heartwarming and will help their new four legged family member Luna's transition from shelter to new home.

They met and fell for Luna at Sunday's Designer Mutt Match and here Susan gives us an update on how they are doing: "We adopted our dog Luna, a young coonhound mix, from the Grant County Humane Society in Moses Lake. She was at the shelter for a long time because of her hyper personality. She is sweet and submissive and only wants to play play play. We researched and educated ourselves for a year and a half on basic training, CPR, health and fitness, etc. After all, we will have her with us until we are at least 40 years old."

"We love having her home. Can I say that louder? We LOOOOOVE her!! We carry jerky and other treats in our pockets to never miss a chance for positive reward any chance we get. She's a quick learner and already knows not to jump on the couch or the bed. Today she learned 'down' and not to hang out in our little kitchen while we're cooking. Putting boundaries from the beginning has set the tone really well. But if we mess up, we know she can learn the new rule in a matter of a day. The only way she's leaving us is if they pry her off our cold dead fingers."

Grant County Animal Services Leaves with an Empty Trailer
Congratulations to GCAS who drove away after the event with a trailer empty of animals and a very happy group of staff and volunteers, after having adopted out all 12 dogs they brought to the event! Their commitment truly inspires us and we are thrilled to be a part of their victory.
