Behavior problems are one of the top reasons people turn their animals into shelters. Most of the time these behavioral issues can be fixed. Our approach for helping with this issue is:
- "Pre Adoption Event Workshops" focus on helping people identify how to pick out a dog that is right for them and their lifestyle focusing on characteristics such as activity level, grooming and training needs. Attendees are better able to make knowledgeable decisions when adding a new dog or puppy to their family.
- "Good Dog 101" is a 30 minute training for shelter workers and volunteers held the morning of an adoption event. Training is focused on how to best show the dog to increase adoptions and working with the dog on the basics of sit and quiet: there is no cost for this training
- Training articles focus on both dog and cat behavior issues, published in our monthly newsletter and listed here. Direct learning and supportive materials prepare pet owners and give them tools to address and resolve behavior problems themselves as well as opening the door to seeking help.
