How much is that doggie in the shelter window?
In addition to the initial cost of adoption, there's a whole litany of expenses that the average companion animal caretaker will incur within a year. How much out-of-pocket will you need to spend on your pocket pet? What's the dish on fish? Visit Missing Pet Partnership's web site at www.missingpetpartnership.org for lost pet behavior recovery tips, suggestions on how to make highly visible posters, and links to pet detective resources with search dogs trained to find lost pets.
Visit www.helpmefindmypet.com to create a missing pet poster that is sent to a network of pet shelters, veterinarians, groomers and others in the network.
Found an animal?
If you can hold onto it make sure to notify your local shelter. If you can't then take it to the local shelter where you found the animal. Also advertise in the local paper that the animal was found, most newspapers will place a found ad for free. If you plan to hold onto the animal post large, easy to read Found flyers and posters at businesses near where the animal was found with a picture along with giving flyers to the shelter.
Beware of who inquires about the animal. Make sure they can describe the animal and its characteristics (including collar or other items it was found with) in detail. Unfortunately, there are people out there looking for animals for unsavory purposes.
